Why can't I stop overeating junk food?....

Many of us might have days where we have certain cravings for specific types of food, but what is it that makes us binge on chips and overeat cookies and ice cream, well you name it..?!

If you are certain that your cravings are not caused by a nutrient diffeciency, poor diet or an illness, you might just be another "victim" of the junk food industry; Here is how it works:

Processed foods are designed to be irresistable and hyperpalatable. Not only is junk food easily available everywhere, but most of the time it's a lot cheaper than less processed and heatlhtier options. An all too familiar situation when you just want to indulge and enjoy a couple of bites, maybe just to taste a new flavour, since the package is already open, most of us would end up eating way more than they intially meant to. The perfectly engineered flavours that are created by experts in labs, are then marketed in an emotionally appealing way, they even consider texture and flavours that our brains are more drawn to and hardwired towant more of. The marketing of these foods actually makeit seem like they are "good for you"; bright colours, cathy phrases and buzzwords like vegan and organic, create the illusion of health. By supersizing meals, we also get the feeling that we're getting a "good deal", the variaty inoptionsandflavours also makes us want more.

So what can you do to stop this bad habit over overeating junk food?

1. Become aware; Evaluate what kind of food you have at home and what it actually contains, then list the number of treats and junk food you have in your kitchen.

2. Analyse your triggers; When do you feel the needof treats? What timeof the day does it usually happens? Is it at home or at work? Self-awareness helps you spot your habits and makesit easier to change bad habbits with better ones.n

3. Find good habits that both makes you feel good and are good for your health.

4. Start shopping quality food over quantity. The availability of foodin your kitchenalso makes it easier to binge.

5. Eat slow and be kind to yourself!
